Introduction to Wine Appreciation Caviste's Introduction to Wine Appreciation course is aimed at wine enthusiasts who wish to gain a basic knowledge and understanding of the art, science and appreciation of wine. Registered under The Wine and Spirit Education Trust, the industry’s educational body, courses are held twice a year and lead to the optional Wine and Spirit Educational Trust Intermediate Certificate.
Course Tutors Course are led by David Thomas, Mark Bedford and Rachel Gilbey, who between them have over 40 years of wine trade and vineyard experience and have visited most of the world’s wine regions. David holds an Oenology (winemaking) degree, Mark has been trained by the Institute of Masters of Wine, whilst Rachel holds the Wine and Spirit Education Trust Diploma.
Forthcoming Courses We are currently taking bookings for our Autumn 2008 courses, which will be held at Caviste Stockbridge.
The course starts on Thursday 4th September, running for eight weeks from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. The optional Wine & Spirit Education Trust Intermediate Exam is taken at the end of the course on a date suitable for all candidates.
Course Overview The eight week course aims to provide a basic knowledge of the world’s wines and why they taste as they do, balancing theory with practical tasting in a fun and educational environment. No previous knowledge of wine is required in order to sit the course. At least six wines are tasted each session, all of good to excellent standard, accompanied by a cheese board. By the end of the course attendees will have gained enough knowledge to be able to sit The Wine and Spirit Education Trust Intermediate Certificate examination (an NVQ Level 1 qualification), although this is entirely optional.
Cost of the Course The course costs £345 for the eight weekly sessions, which includes all wines, information packs, six tasting glasses and cheese. The optional WSET Intermediate Exam costs an additional £50.
