From the well-established Ashmore vineyard at Settlement, in Marlborough.

It boasts a northern exposure that basks in full sunlight all day long. Paired with the cool nights of Marlborough, the perfect growing conditions for our Riesling fruit are created. The deep alluvial silt loam soil, layered over a clay subsoil, provides excellent drainage and requires minimal irrigation, even during dry years. Ashmore Vineyard has been producing premium organic grapes since 1997, with full certification achieved in 2012. Our Riesling fruit from this sought-after vineyard boasts a lively, citrus bouquet with hints of red apple, melon, and fresh herbs.

The 2020 harvest was off to a promising start, with favorable growing conditions. However, increased rainfall in December and February presented some obstacles in caring for the vines, which were crucial in maintaining the exceptional quality of our grapes. This wine is harvested by machine and directly pressed into stainless steel tanks. After settling for 3 days, it is then transferred for fermentation, with 15% being aged in old French oak. After spending 5 months in tanks, the wine is finally bottled. This wine is unfiltered.

Tasting Note: Strongly varietal showing lifted aromas and flavours of ripe citrus and fresh white peach. Great balance where the sweetness level shows but the effect is one of a tangy dryish finish. Looking very youthful at this stage and from the delicacy of the palate is showing the potential to develop positively for many years.
